Estelle Shrinks!

Filed under: Books — shelleychua @ 2:34 pm

We’ve been enjoying the book George Shrinks by William Joyce and having great fun imagining what things would be like if we were small. So far, we’ve been using our fingers as miniatures of ourselves as we go on our adventures around Estelle’s playroom.

When I was at the shops the other day, I noticed some iron-on transfers! So… this morning, I got my act together and made Estelle…. a mini Estelle!

She’s been walking around with the doll and talking in a high-pitched baby voice. It’s hilarious. (hmm… why does small naturally translate into something with a high-pitched voice?) Hahaha.

So far, Little Estelle has been hanging out with the Little Einsteins.

(The brown box is the Rocket ok!?!! Just gotta paint it some day…)

The gang has been camping on Estelle’s bed, under the duvet, and Little Estelle got to slide on the bolster. When it was time for lunch, Little Estelle was tucked into Junie-June’s dress because “June will protect Little Estelle”. I wonder what other adventures little Estelle will get into.

PS I didn’t realise the book has sparked off a TV series and it’s own website! But I don’t think it’s so much fun to be 3 inches tall all the time…

Elephants…

Filed under: Life at 2, Books — shelleychua @ 10:41 pm

Remember how I mentioned that Estelle loves to hear about Elephants and anything elephant-related? Thanks to Aunty Pris, Estelle has a new favourite book.

One that she demands that I read to her every day. And sometimes, as a bonus, she even gets DaddyO to read it to her in the evenings. She can now complete most of the sentences in the book…

The book is pretty cool and has really cute drawings. But there are a few bits which are not clear enough. For example, when the mouse is shouting, only the words are in bold, the drawing is not expressive enough and does not depict shouting.

And it’s hard for the child to understand that the elephant might step on the mouse. Estelle doesn’t even understand how her crazy jumping on the bed might hurt Amelie who’s lying there. The understanding of “might” will probably develop later, but not at 2.

Anyway, Estelle likes to imitate the elephant clomping around, and that’s pretty cute. (so long it’s NOT on the bed).

Her collection of elephant soft toys is growing… she recently declared one of Amelie’s soft toys to be hers simply because it’s an elephant. Ah well… I thought they’d be stealing each others’ toys much later.

Playdoh Family…

Filed under: Life at 2, Books — shelleychua @ 10:02 pm

Estelle loves her playdoh.

For the first time today, she requested that “Amelie gingerbread man” be created after Daddy, Mummy and Estelle gingerbread men.

Holding Hands

She’d place them in a circle, all holding hands and she’d sing “Ring-a-ring of roses” until they “all fall down”.

And I was beaming from ear to ear.

It seems that all the books we read, all the stories we told and the Estelle-stories I’ve been telling her have been quietly taking hold in her mind. It’s taken her a while to digest it all… I suppose now is a great time to come to terms with the baby’s arrival! (I’m ONE week away from delivery.)Happy Family

Yes, I admit, I’ve been rather stressed about how Estelle will react… she didn’t even seem to acknowledge my ballooning tummy. Ethan, on the other hand, has been a real trooper. He’d ask me about my tummy, who’s in there, feel its movements, etc. He seems rather keen about the new addition. (Ahem, Wenz…)
Oh, Jason bought this book from the US and Estelle loves it. She’s been making me read it again and again since she saw it yesterday.
